In commemoration and celebration of the Australian Defence Forces on Remembrance Day, Legacy is teaming up with The Cooks Larder to bring back the Legacy Bears Picnic after the successful event last year. With picnics playing a key role in getting families together during the most recent lockdown, it’s fitting for loved ones to get together again to remember the veterans who have worked so hard for our country and their families who have sacrificed so much for Australia.
Offering picnic hampers for two or four people, The Cooks Larder will also sell iconic Legacy teddy bears so that families and friends can create their very own Legacy Bears Picnic. As the nation pauses to reflect on the sacrifices of our veterans this Remembrance Day, on 11 November, Legacy is asking Australians to also spare a thought for their families. Just as we will always remember the fallen, Legacy will always be there for their families. Legacy ensures that no partner or child of a veteran who has given their life or health, will suffer social or financial hardship as a result of their service. With the country still feeling the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, a simple picnic with friends or family is a safe way to reconnect. The hampers can be ordered online and delivered straight to your door.

Known for their delicious and ‘Instagrammable’ gourmet grazing boxes, The Cooks Larder uses quality Aussie produce and ingredients, and creates each box fresh daily to ensure quality is never compromised and always beautifully packaged. The two person picnic hampers will include three Australian cheeses, crackers, charcuterie selection, hummus, dried and fresh fruits and vegetables, chocolate, Turkish Delight and giant meringues; with gluten free, vegan and vegetarian options available as well. For the four person hamper there will be four cheeses, crackers and bread, a large charcuterie selection with paste and relish, dried and fresh fruits and vegetables with Turkish Delight and giant meringues.
$20.00 from each hamper sold goes directly to Legacy allowing them to continue supporting the families of those who have served in the armed forces for Australia.
Picnickers can purchase Legacy Teddy Bears from the Legacy Shop Online or teddies can be purchased as an add-on to their hamper via the The Cooks Larder website. Each teddy is $20.00 (plus postage) and this year’s collection features three bears: the Light Horse Bear, Nurse Bear and the RAAF Blue Camo Bear.

Nikki Hollis, President of Sydney Legacy commented: “Following the great interest of last year’s Legacy Bear Picnic, it made sense to do this again, particularly as picnics have become very popular amongst Aussies given the latest lockdown measures. Once again, we wanted to be able to engage our beneficiaries and our community in a way that is COVID safe and encourage people to talk and be aware of our important work for the families of our fallen veterans.”
The team from The Cooks Larder added: “With a growing demand for picnic hampers and grazing boxes, we felt like this was a great opportunity to collaborate with Legacy and give back to the community that has served our country. It’s a great initiative that encourages families and loved ones to get together and enjoy some delicious food for a very good cause.”
The spirit of Legacy is service, which was born out of the trenches of WWI with a promise a dying soldier made to his mate to “look after the missus and kids”. Today, Legacy supports over 43,000 individuals and families across Australia and is supported by over 3,600 volunteer members, Legatees.
